Stainless Steel A286 AMS 5805
AMS 5805 is a sub-type specification of Stainless Steel A286, an alloy that carries many favorable properties. These include high strength at elevated temperatures, excellent corrosion resistance up to 1300 °F (700 °C), good fabrication properties, and low-temperature non-magnetic strength.
Because of its unique qualities, this specification finds use in various industries. These include jet engine parts, industrial gas turbines, automotive superchargers, fasteners and springs in high-temperature environments, high-temperature afterburner parts, tanks, piping, pumps, heat exchangers, and superchargers in the automotive industry.
Tech Steel & Materials offers AMS 5805 in an environment-controlled packaging and vacuum induction melted condition. This specification is only available as a wire and is intended for use as a welding filler metal. AMS 5805 can be utilized with all standard welding procedures, including gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, and shielded metal arc.
For best welding results, the weld itself should be raised, or in a convex shape. Also, it is preferable if the welded materials are in the solution annealed condition. If not, special care toward the reduction of cracking should be applied. A maximum strength can be achieved by solution treating, followed by cold working and aging.
