Cobalt L-605 AMS 5759
AMS 5759 is a sub-type specification of Cobalt L-605, a superalloy that has many favorable properties that make it one of the best choices for manufacturing of turbines in aircrafts and powerplants.
The main property of AMS 5759 is outstanding high-temperature strength up to 1500 °F (1093 °C), and therefore it is used for turbine rings, turbine blades, and combustion chamber parts.
AMS 5759 also has very excellent resistance up to 2000 °F (1093 °C) in corrosive environments, including wet chlorine, hydrochloric acid, and nitric acid.
Thanks to its biocompatibility and non-magnetic nature, AMS 5759 can also be used in the medical industry for manufacturing of heart valves and other stent applications.
Tech Steel & Materials offers AMS 5759 in the form of bar, forging, ring and custom tubing. This specification is not heat-treated. To achieve the best properties of this superalloys, the following heat treatment is recommended:
- Annealing at 2150 °F to 2250 °F (1176 °C to 1232 °C)
- Rapid air cooling or water quenching
AMS 5759 is characterized by good formability and fabricability with forging, hot working, or cold working. That said, AMS 5759 can rapidly harden during cold operation and requires regular annealing treatments.
AMS 5579 bars, forgings, and rings can be readily welded using all standard methods, using the AMS 5796 welding wire as a filler metal or using flesh welding (without filler metal).
