Nickel Nimonic 263 AMS 5966
AMS 5966 is a specification of Nickel Nimonic 263 nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum alloy. Available as wire, this specification is specifically designed for welding purposes as a filler metal for argon-shielded welding processes, as well as resistance spot, stitch and seam welding, and flash-butt welding.
Welded parts using the AMS 5966 filler metal are mostly used in high temperature and high strength applications, such as the hot section of gas turbines, both in aircraft and land-based applications.
AMS 5966 can be readily used for welding using argon shielded processes, both automatic and manual T.I.G. and M.I.G. processes. It is also used for resistance spot, stitch and seam welding, and flash-butt welding for gas turbine rings.
The filler metal is not required for welding of parts that are thinner than 1.6 mm, where welding can be obtained without it.
Using the AMS 5966, automatic T.I.G. welding is required for sheets and strips with a thickness of up to 3.25 mm, but only for simple joints. On the other hand, manual T.I.G. welding is required for more complicated joints and thicknesses up to 4.8 mm.
The M.I.G. welding process is required for thicknesses above 4.8 mm, or when a lot of welding is required.
