Cobalt L-605 AMS 5537
AMS 5537 is a sub-type specification of Cobalt L-605, a cobalt-based superalloy that has several crucial characteristics that make it suitable for use in high-temperature and high-corrosive environments.
Thanks to the high concentration of chromium and tungsten, AMS 5537 has outstanding oxidation resistance at temperature up to 2000 °F (1093 °C), excellent high-temperature strength of up to 1500 °F (1093 °C), and excellent galling resistance.
Tech Steel & Materials offers AMS 5537 in the form of foil, plate, sheet, and strip. This specification is solution heat-treated with annealing done at 2150 °F to 2250 °F (1176 °C to 1232 °C), followed by rapid air cooling or water quenching.
Thanks to its many favorable properties, AMS 5537 can be used in the aerospace industry for manufacturing of gas turbine engine components which are often subjected to high heat, turbine rings and turbine blades, and other combustion chamber parts.
Foils, plates, sheets and strips made of AMS 5537 are easily formable with forging and hot working at a temperature between 1900 °F, and 2300 °F (1038 °C to 1260 °C). Cold working is also possible, but keep in mind that AMS 5537 hardens rapidly during treatment.
AMS 5537 can be readily welded using all standard methods. For best results, we recommend the AMS 5796 welding wire, which is also a sub-type specification of Cobalt L-605.
