AMS 4377
AMS 4377 is a sub-type specification of Magnesium AZ31B-H24 available as cold rolled plates and sheets. When compared to other specifications of the same alloy, AMS 4377 is strain hardened and then partially annealed. Thanks to this heat treatment, this specification has better strength characteristics than AMS 4375 derived from AZ31B-0, but lower strength and stiffness than the AMS 4376 derived from AZ31B-H26.
AMS 4377 is very easy to machine and manufacture using proprietary lubricants and has outstanding dimensional stability, which makes it a great choice for complex parts. Thanks to the high percentage of magnesium, AMS 4377 is also characterized by excellent strength and very low density. Thanks to the outstanding stiffness per density ratio, it finds use in the aircraft industry for manufacturing of fuselages.
On top of that, this specification can be used in the computer industry for RFI and EMI shielding, and in the high-end audio gear industry for manufacturing of speaker cones.
No heat treatment for AMS 4377 is available that will significantly change its properties.
Like all magnesium alloys, special care must be applied when working with AMS 4377 due to high flammability and possible irritation to the skin, airways, and eyes.
