Stainless Steel A286 AMS 5734
AMS 5734 is a sub-type specification of Stainless Steel A286, an iron-based precipitation-hardenable super-alloy based. This specification is already solution heat-treated at 1650 °F (900 °C) for one hour, followed by water or oil quenching. It possesses many favorable qualities, including high strength at elevated temperatures, good ductility, excellent fabrication, and cryogenic non-magnetic strength down to -320 °F (-196 °C).
Thanks to the high-temperature strength, AMS 5734 finds use in the aircraft industry for the manufacturing of jet engine components, industrial gas turbines, and automotive superchargers. These components include turbine rotors, shafts, blades, flanges, dowels, etc. That’s because the alloy can be readily formed and cold-worked, with better properties than other cobalt and nickel steel alloys.
AMS 5734 alloy also offers corrosion resistance up to 1300 °F (700 °C), specifically in aqueous solutions of acetic acid and nitric acid. Furthermore, the super-alloy can be readily welded using traditional standard procedures, such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, and shielded metal arc. The use of the filler wire from the same specification is recommended. Also, the parts should be welded in the solution annealed condition to prevent cracking.
Tech Steel & Materials offers the AMS 5734 specification in the shape of bar, custom tube, forging, tubing, and wire.
